There are a lot of assumptions that no longer are truthful about gas mileage and different vehicle types.  For instance, many men and women are still under the assumption that only cars get great gas mileage, when many automobile manufacturers have worked hard to make sure that this is not the case.  While cars generally get the best gas mileage, SUV gas mileage and even truck gas mileage ratings have gone up in recent years.  In the future, as hybrid models come out and manufacturers continue to optimize these vehicles, expect to see the figures continue to rise for bigger vehicles.
