Are self-made cleaners safe?

Over recent years several celebrity cleaners have showcased the cheap, easy way to remove dirt from homes and businesses. Armed with some borax, white vinegar and lemon juice, it appears that a whole host of stains can be removed from a variety of surfaces. These products have been held up by celebrities as safe ways of eradicating bugs – but recent warnings suggest that it is not that straightforward. Experts from the Soap and Detergent Association recently released warnings that could persuade cleaners to be careful when making their own concoctions and instead order janitorial supplies from an official provider. The association pointed out that when cleaners mix their own detergents they may be unsure where the separate ingredients are sourced and this could be dangerous if a child swallowed the contents; Poison centres need to know the source of products to provide the correct antidote.
