Job hunting online

How do you know if employers even look at your resume when you apply for jobs online?  I’ve been feverishly job searching an applying to jobs left and right the last few weeks since leaving my previous position.  As an entry-level job seeker, my resume is quite outstanding, filled with more relevant work experience than most anyone my age, and I graduated at the top of my class.  However, I hardly ever get replies to my resume/cover letter submissions.  In my experience, simply putting my personal website on my LinkedIn account, where I highlight my skills and resume has gotten me more luck than applying for actual job postings online.  So… in the end, old school job application in which people can actually see your personality, optimism and energy wins over new age email and online job hunting.
