Abuse and Alcohol is A Destructive Combination

When thinking about people who drink heavily, it seems that the term “about alcohol abuse” seems to go together like the term “ham and eggs.”  Stated differently, with the number of people throughout the world who have alcohol problems, it seems that it is becoming increasingly more difficult to think of alcohol without also thinking about abuse.  Part of the “problem” with abuse and alcohol has to do with human behavior.  Simply put, when we find something we like or that makes us feel good, we have a tendency to want more of that something.  This, however, is where things that are addictive become radically differentiated from things that are not addictive.  Take chocolate ice cream as an example.  If a person eats too much chocolate ice cream, he or she will eventually get tired of chocolate ice cream and will probably discontinue this eating activity.  When it comes to alcohol, conversely, an entirely different situation arises.  Simply stated, the more an individual drinks alcohol, the more alcohol he or she will probably drink.  In fact, once the person has become addicted to alcohol, he or she cannot stop drinking because of the withdrawal symptoms that will take place.  And once an individual becomes alcohol dependent, destructive consequences typically take place.
