Needy children high lighted in Save the Children’s latest report on mothers

It is alarming, but some 200 million needy children around live without even basic health care. And every year 10 million children under the age of five die. These are figures from the latest annual State of the World’s Mothers Report from the Save the Children organization. In a number of developing countries, basic health care is being provided for needy people and their children. They include Philippines, Peru, South Africa and Indonesia, but even there the first health car dollars usually go to the richer members of the society. Poor children die at a distressing rate in those, and other countries, the report says. Common diseases among children in developing countries, like pneumonia, diarrhea and measles, can be treated easily and inexpensively, and should be. Mothers seem unaware of the simple treatments or unable to get them.
