What Job?
JOB is a three letter word, and I don’t have one. Eight years ago, my lovely wife Maureen started a wedding ceremony business using an on-line storefront. Now I work in the business as well. For years I did the traditional thing, but that’s over. I don’t miss the bad coffee, stale doughnuts and greedy management one bit. Now if I want stale doughnuts and stale coffee I can damn well make them myself. The biggest adjustment overall is learning to give up the ‘security’ of a regular JOB. But upon minimal reflection the security was just an illusion. Working for someone else is loaded with big time risks. Ultimately you’re dependent on the skill and wit of Upper Management to do the right thing in a timely manner and not rob all of the profits in the process. I’ve come to discover that’s a pretty tall order. Then there is the risk that as a cog in the wheel you’ll become disillusioned over time and just give up-killing your spirit in the process.Overall, I think I rather wake up each day and face the creative challenges of living close to the action. Win, lose or draw it’s my game.Jeremy Myers is the Owner of Lyssabeth’s Fort Collins Wedding Officiants
