Whenever I am playing a long par 4 or a par 5 hole, I will aways hit my 2nd shot with a graphite fairway wood. I have 3 of them in my bag. A 3 wood, 5 wood, and a 7 wood. The longer and lightweight graphite shaft helps me to get off a much smoother and straighter swing from the fairway of the first cut of rough. Anything deeper than that and I will use an iron because I need the weight to generate enough head speed to get through the tall grass. I try to avoid those types of shots and keep to the fairway.
